I have about three dozen!
People of different ethnic backgrounds looking over my shoulder in the kitchen – and some are ghosts.
Sometimes I’m rather surprised that anything turns out with that many people nattering away in my head telling me how I should be doing something.
At least a dozen Greeks, a Czech/German, a Yugoslavian Amazon, a couple of Germans, a smattering of North Africans from Morocco and Tunisia with a couple of Egyptians thrown it. Turks, Persians and others are always telling me what spices to use … and then there’s a bunch of Canucks who think they know what’s going on. Of course, the Central Europeans show up when there’s ‘hearty’ food in the offering.
How many do YOU have telling you “you ain’t doing it right”?
BTW: I only listen to Grandmas – they’ve been doing it long enough that they don’t think about it … they just do it.
